1000-Yard World Record Set
with a Nesika Action

When Kyle Brown set the world record in 1000-yard benchrest competition, he was shooting with a Nesika Bay Precision Model J action. “No matter what you’re doing in life, whether it’s building a house, going to the moon or shooting for a thousand yards, the right equipment helps you accomplish your task. That’s why I chose Nesika,” Brown said.

A relative newcomer to the sport, Brown has been participating in benchrest competitions in his home state of Montana for three years. He went to the Northwest 1000 Yard Benchrest Association-sanctioned event last August in spite of foreboding conditions. Forest fires were raging across much of northwestern Montana, and the 1000-yard range in Missoula was closed. But rain the night before had cleared the air in Whitefish which also has an official 1000-yard range. The shoot was on. “I shot a 10-shot group for the record. It came out 4.2278. I wasn’t trying for the record, but conditions that morning were perfect and I had the best equipment that you could possibly have.”

In addition to his Nesika action, Brown used a 26-inch Shilen barrel, 6BR cartridge with Lapua brass, Hornady 105 A-MAX bullets, Hodgdon powder and Federal match primer. Brown shot in the 16.5 pound class.

Brown credits a friend and fellow shooter for introducing him to Nesika actions. “He told me that if I wanted to go to the next level, I had to move past ‘quantity’ and get to ‘quality.’ That’s when I ordered my first Nesika.”

He describes what it was like when the Model J arrived. “Fit and finish is obvious right out of the box. The bolt cycles like it’s on a bed of air. Once a guy gets to work that bolt, it’s over. You’re not going to be happy with anything other than a Nesika.”

Brown owns five Nesika actions. “For sheer accuracy, the Nesika is the best I’ve ever seen. And a Nesika action is ready for you to screw on 20 barrels and keep on running. How many other actions can say that?” Benchrest shooting is not an inexpensive sport. Brown tells people, “When you spend your money, spend it right the first time.

Brown’s wife Karen also participates in benchrest competitions with a Nesika. He chose the action for her for one simple reason – safety. “I’ve seen guys make mistakes on the line – loading with the wrong powder, using too much powder. The action blows and people can get hurt. If you are looking for the safest action made today, you’ve got to buy a Nesika.”

Brown is equally impressed with Nesika’s customer service. “What keeps a good product in the marketplace are the people behind the product. I know that because I work for one of the best gun companies in the world, Kimber Firearms. When I call Michael Allen at Nesika, I know he’s going to take care of me.”

Does Brown expect his record to fall? “Absolutely. Could be me, could be my wife, could be anyone else with a Nesika action.” How does he intend to defend his title? “Pray for wind when the other shooters are on the line.”
